Hi Everyone!
My name is Patrick and I am a recent graduate of the
University of California, Berkeley. I earned my Bachelor of Arts degrees in
Economics and Sociology. But in a perfect world I’ll be making my living off of
doing something creative. Like cooking.
And that’s where this blog comes in.
The first 30 days of this blog will be a sort of “food
challenge”. There’s a Japanese TV show called いきなり!黄金伝説.
(Ikinari Ougon Densetsu; Lit. Sudden, Golden Legend) where once a season they
pit a set of celebrities against each other where they are given 10,000 yen
(approximately $100) to spend on gas, electric, water, and food. I won’t be
using my budget on the first three, but I want to see where my creativity and
budgeting skills take me on a $100 in a month.
On the TV show the celebrities
are in a competition and there are rules involved that I am fortunately exempt
from. Although it’s not a rule set in stone it’s pretty understood that the
celebrities shouldn’t go out to eat
in fear of losing or going over budget. Fortunately, I can still go out to eat
with my friends and at 22, let’s be very clear,
while the celebrities’ budget may include liquids my budget will be exempt from
dranks (there’ll probably be lots of
wine featured on this blog. Not good or great
wines by any means but wine).
So…
Let’s see how much $100 will
feed me, shall we?
